# Card Notes Pokemon Base Set launched trading cards into mainstream culture in 1999 and remains the foundation of modern collecting. Shadowless printings, identifiable by the absence of a drop shadow around the card border, represent the earliest pressings before Wizards of the Coast refined production standards. These first editions capture the raw energy of Pokemon's explosion into the hobby and are sought by collectors building comprehensive collections or chasing nostalgia from the game's cultural moment. Nidoran stands as an iconic early-generation Pokemon, recognizable to anyone who played the original games or watched the anime.
