Obsidian Flames arrived in 2023 as a standard expansion that sustained collector interest during an era of steady Pokemon TCG releases. The set maintained the hobby's momentum following earlier 2023 sets, offering familiar gameplay and artwork across its full lineup while providing secret rare variants that elevated the collecting experience for those seeking harder-to-pull treasures. Larvitar, the rock-type fossil Pokemon, appears here as a secret rare—a designation that places it beyond the standard set number sequence. Collectors value secret rares for their scarcity and alternate presentation, making this particular Larvitar a notable pull for both Pokemon enthusiasts and those pursuing complete secret rare collections from the set.
