Obsidian Flames arrived in 2023 as a mainline set that captured collectors' attention during a period of sustained interest in modern Pokémon TCG releases. This era saw the hobby balancing competitive play enthusiasm with investment collecting, and Obsidian Flames delivered compelling artwork and mechanics that appealed to both audiences. The set's secret rares became particularly sought-after additions to serious collections. Palafin's secret rare appearance showcases this Water-type Pokémon in striking detail, representing the Paldea region's expanded roster. Secret rares from modern sets have developed a devoted following among collectors who prize the elevated presentation and relative scarcity these cards command compared to standard rarities. This card exemplifies why Obsidian Flames remains a favorite hunting ground for those building comprehensive modern collections.
