Team Rocket marked a pivotal moment in Pokémon TCG history as the first set to introduce villain-themed cards in 2000. This Japanese set brought a darker aesthetic to the trading card game, featuring Pokémon under the control of the notorious Team Rocket organization. The set's unconventional approach and limited English print run made it instantly collectible, establishing Team Rocket as a cornerstone release for enthusiasts seeking early Pokémon cardboard with personality and edge. Squirtle, the beloved water-type starter, appears here as a Team Rocket operative—a concept that fascinated collectors navigating this unusual set. The card captures the character in a distinctly villainous context, offering a refreshing departure from traditional Pokémon imagery. Squirtle's enduring popularity combined with Team Rocket's nostalgic appeal makes this version a natural target for both Pokémon fans and set completionists.
