Team Rocket stands as one of the most iconic and beloved sets in Pokémon TCG history. Released in 2000, it introduced the first villainous theme to the game, featuring corrupted and darkened versions of familiar Pokémon. The set captured collectors' imaginations with its edgy aesthetic and marked a significant moment when the TCG proved it could sustain interest beyond the initial wave of enthusiasm. Dark Charmeleon exemplifies Team Rocket's appeal—a familiar evolutionary stage reimagined through a sinister lens. The dark typing and corrupted artwork transform this normally benign creature into something compelling and unusual. Collectors prize cards from this era for their nostalgic artwork and the set's historical importance in establishing that Pokémon cards could explore bold thematic departures while maintaining the core appeal that made the game special.
