Team Rocket (2000) marked a bold departure for the Pokémon TCG, introducing the first villain-themed expansion set. These cards featured dark reimagined versions of classic Pokémon under Team Rocket's control, capturing the anti-hero aesthetic that resonated with collectors during the franchise's peak trading card popularity. The set became iconic for its edgy artwork and unique mechanical identity, establishing themes that would echo through future expansions. Dark Primeape exemplifies the set's appeal—a menacing reinterpretation of the familiar fighting-type monkey, rendered with an appropriately sinister edge. Collectors are drawn to the Dark Pokémon line for their striking visual contrast to standard cards and their representation of a pivotal moment in TCG design history when the game embraced narrative complexity beyond simple type matchups.
