Neo Genesis marked the beginning of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's second generation, arriving in 2000 with fresh artwork and mechanics that revitalized the hobby after Base Set's explosive popularity. This set introduced Johto region creatures alongside Kanto favorites, bridging the classic games with newer content. First edition printings remain particularly sought after, representing an important transitional moment when the TCG was establishing itself as a long-term collectible rather than a passing trend. Chikorita, the Grass-type starter from the Johto region, appears here as a charming early-set card featuring the character in its natural habitat. Collectors value starter Pokémon across all sets, and this gentle creature's thoughtful illustration exemplifies the approachable character work that made Neo Genesis appealing to both new and experienced players.
