Jungle was the second expansion released for the Japanese Pokémon Trading Card Game in 1997, building on Base Set's massive success. The set introduced players to new creatures and mechanics while the hobby was experiencing explosive growth. Japanese releases of this era are particularly significant to collectors as they represent the game's formative years and feature distinct artwork and printing characteristics that differ from their English counterparts. Mankey appears in this set as a Stage 1 evolution line staple, depicting the scrappy Fighting-type in its characteristically aggressive pose. Collectors value early Jungle cards for their historical importance and the quality of their original Japanese printing. This particular card captures a moment from Pokémon's earliest trading card era, making it a natural addition for anyone building a comprehensive Japanese Base Set era collection.
