The 1998 Donruss Signature Series represented a turning point in late-90s collecting, emphasizing authenticity through on-card autographs and limited production. These Signature Proof versions were exclusive parallel releases, reserved for dealers and special distributions. The set captured a moment when premium products were redefining what collectors valued—moving beyond base cards toward signed, serialized releases that promised rarity and direct connection to players. Rickey Henderson's signature card is particularly sought after given his status as one of baseball's all-time greats and most electrifying base-stealers. Collectors are drawn to signed Henderson cards from this era for their combination of a legendary subject and the authenticity that defined the Signature Series concept. His autograph on cardboard from 1998 represents both a snapshot of modern collecting's evolution and a piece of one of the game's most distinctive careers.
