Panini Donruss Optic dominated the early 2020s as a flagship modern set, prized for its innovative prismatic technology and clean design language. Released during a pivotal moment when Panini held the NFL license, Optic became the go-to product for collectors seeking contemporary rookie cards with eye-catching visual appeal. The Rated Rookie subset remains one of the set's most collected segments, capturing prospects at the threshold of their professional careers. Trey Lance's 2021 rookie card arrived amid significant quarterback intrigue, as the San Francisco 49ers traded up to secure his services. Collectors pursued this card as a foundational piece of his speculative portfolio, drawn to both the player's dual-threat potential and the Optic set's distinctive aesthetic. For many, it represents a snapshot of optimism from a pivotal draft class moment.
