Topps' Garbage Pail Kids: Book Worms—Gross Adaptations brought the irreverent spirit of classic GPK into the literary realm. Released in 2022, this set reimagined beloved (and not-so-beloved) book characters through the franchise's signature crude humor and grotesque artwork. The Book Worms series represented Garbage Pail Kids' continued cultural relevance, proving that decades after their 1985 debut, the brand remained capable of generating fresh parodies that resonated with collectors both nostalgic and new. Malodorous Mary is a prime example of the set's literary mischief—a twisted take on a recognizable character filtered through GPK's playful grotesqueness. The card's artwork captures the exaggerated, slightly repulsive charm that defines the franchise. Collectors gravitate toward standout character reimaginings like this one, appreciating how the set balances literary references with unabashed weirdness.
