Garbage Pail Kids exploded onto the trading card scene in 1985 as a irreverent antidote to the polished sports card market. Topps' subversive series paired crude, grotesque artwork with scatological humor and parodies of popular culture, instantly capturing the imagination of kids and collectors. The set became a phenomenon that defined the mid-1980s and established a template for satirical trading cards that persists today. Bad Brad represents the anarchic spirit that made the series legendary. Like many GPK cards, it features a darkly comic scenario rendered in the distinctive illustrative style that made the set instantly recognizable. Collectors seek out these early release cards from the original series for their cultural significance and as touchstones of 1980s pop culture nostalgia.
