Base Set stands as the foundation of modern Pokemon collecting. Released in 1999, it introduced Western audiences to the franchise and created the template for the trading card game itself. These early printings remain benchmarks for vintage Pokemon enthusiasts, capturing a moment when the hobby was being invented rather than refined. Base Set's cultural impact reverberates through collecting today. Gyarados represents one of Pokemon's most iconic evolution lines, and this holo version showcases the fearsome sea dragon in dramatic fashion. The card's striking artwork and commanding presence made it instantly recognizable to players and collectors alike. As a powerful Stage 1 evolution, Gyarados has always held appeal for those who appreciate both competitive gameplay history and the artistry that defined early Pokemon cards.
