The Blockbuster Video Pokemon Snap Smart Card set emerged in 1999 as a unique crossover between the popular Pokemon Snap arcade game and retail merchandise. These cards were distributed through Blockbuster locations and represent an interesting footnote in Pokemon's early collectible history, capturing the franchise's explosive popularity during that critical period when trading cards and video games were fueling one another's growth. Squirtle, one of Pokemon's most beloved and iconic starters, appears here in artwork inspired by the Pokemon Snap game's photography aesthetic. Collectors are drawn to cards from this set for their nostalgic connection to late-nineties Pokemon culture and the rarity of Blockbuster-exclusive merchandise, which didn't achieve the widespread distribution of mainstream card releases.
