The Blockbuster Video Pokémon Snap Smart Card set emerged in 1999 as a unique promotional collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Blockbuster Video stores. These innovative cards featured interactive smart chip technology, blending physical collectibles with early digital engagement—a fascinating artifact of late-90s experimentation in trading cards. The set captures a moment when retailers and manufacturers were exploring novel ways to enhance the Pokémon collecting experience beyond traditional cardboard. Bulbasaur appears here as one of the set's most iconic subjects, rendered in artwork inspired by the beloved Pokémon Snap video game. Collectors are drawn to this card for its nostalgic connection to both the game's photography mechanics and the broader cultural phenomenon of Pokémon in 1999, making it a meaningful piece for those who experienced that formative era of the franchise.
