Destined Rivals launched in early 2025 as a pivotal set bridging Scarlet and Violet's competitive era with fresh character spotlights. The set emphasized illustration rares—premium cards celebrating artwork over raw power—reflecting the hobby's maturation toward appreciating aesthetic craftsmanship alongside gameplay value. This era marked a shift where collectors valued diverse visual presentations equally with chase holos and alt arts. Arven's Greedent captures one of Paldea's memorable characters alongside his beloved Pokémon companion. Illustration rares like this one celebrate the bond between trainer and Pokémon through detailed, character-focused artwork rather than competitive dominance. Collectors seek these cards for their striking visual narratives and the way they commemorate specific story moments from the games.
