# Card Notes: Abra The 1999 Base Set Shadowless first edition represents the very genesis of Pokémon's trading card game in English markets. Released before the "1st Edition" stamp became standard practice, these early printings launched a cultural phenomenon that transformed the hobby overnight. Shadowless cards—lacking the drop shadow behind artwork—distinguish these initial pressings from subsequent printings, making them foundational pieces for serious collectors and historians of the game's origins. Abra appears as one of the set's numerous psychic-type creatures, recognizable for its iconic teleporting abilities in gameplay and lore. The card's simple yet distinctive artwork captures this speedy Pokémon in a moment frozen between dimensions. Collectors value early Abra copies for their connection to Pokémon's formative era and as accessible entry points into the shadowless first edition collecting category.
